While it is neither the highest nor the widest waterfall in the world, the Victoria Falls are classified as the largest, based on its combined width of 5,600 ft and height of 354 ft resulting in the world's largest sheet of falling water. The Victoria Falls are roughly twice the height of North America's Niagara Falls and well over twice the width of its Horseshoe Falls. In height and width the Victoria Falls are rivalled only by Argentina and Brazil's Iguazu Falls. The Falls are located in Livingstone which until 2012 served as the province's capital. Lying just to the north of the Zambezi River, it is a tourism centre and a border town with road and rail connections to Zimbabwe on the other side of the Falls. This historic British colonial city, it is named after David Livingstone, the Scottish explorer and missionary who was the first European to explore the area.

Climate: Zambia is located in southern part of the African continent and is almost entirely covered by a plateau. This tempers the sub-tropical climate, making the temperature generally acceptable for most of the year. It experinces a hot, humid, and rainy season from mid-November to March and a dry season from April to mid-November. In Livingstone, the heat is intense from September to November, with peaks of 40°C. Zambia is located some distance from the sea, so it is not likely to be affected by tropical cyclones. The best time to go to Zambia is from May to August as it's the coolest period of the year, and it's dry and sunny. However, the winter nights are cold because of the more southern location, even though the altitude is slightly lower than in the capital. In winter (June to August), pack light clothes for the day, but also a sweater, a jacket and a hat for the evening. And of course a sun hat and sunscreen. In summer (December to February), pack light clothes and a sun hat for the day. For the eveng pack a sweatshirt and a spring jacket as well as light raincoat or umbrella.
