Bazaruto Island Scene More affordable than the Seychelles and less built-up than Mauritius, Mozambique is fast becoming the place to go for classic tropical island holidays. Its wide mainland beaches are lapped by the warm Indian Ocean. Swim, snorkel, laze in the sunshine or set sail on a sunset dhow cruise. One of Africa's top big game destinations, the country’s wild reserves are becoming a top choice for off-the-beaten-track safaris. The country offers many attractions that are still not known by many tourists including the Niassa National Reserve located in the north and the coral islands and marine parks in the archipelago of Bazaruto.

Climate: In Mozambique, the climate is tropical, with a hot and rainy season from November to March, and a dry season from May to October. In inland areas the altitude tempers the climate, but in the lowlands the heat can be intense in the hot and rainy season of the austral summer, and even more so in the period preceding the rainy season (September to November). Being in the Southern Hemisphere, Mozambique has reversed seasons compared with Europe or North America. During winter, from May to August, the south-east trade winds bring pleasant and sunny weather. However, the temperature can sometimes drop, and it can get cold at night, especially in inland areas. From June to October, the rains are very rare save for some brief showers along the central part of the coast. In summer, there is enough heat and humidity for the formation of thunderclouds, so the trade winds are able to bring rainfall as well, even though these rains are less intense than in the center-north. The rains occur primarily in the form of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon, so even in the rainy season, the amount of sunshine is not low. The optimal time to visit is September to November, when the game viewing is at its best, the weather calmest and warmest, and whale migration can also be observed.
