Abu Dhabi Scene Abu Dhabi is the capital and the second-most populous city of the United Arab Emirates (after Dubai). It's located in the Persian Gulf, South West of Dubai. The UAE is made up of seven emirates, almost all overlooking the Persian Gulf (Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah, and Umm al-Quwain) and one overlooking the Gulf of Oman (Fujairah). The biggest emirate, which also includes the capital, is Abu Dhabi, even though the most famous one is Dubai because of its futuristic buildings and modern tourist resorts. Keep in mind that the United Arab Emirates is a Muslim country and while visitors are not expected to follow religious dress codes, they should nonetheless dress with respect for local customs. Skirts and trousers should be knee-length or longer, and women should avoid tight-fitting clothes. Cleavage, midriff and upper arms should be covered. Shorts are only allowed on the beach and while bikinis are permitted, topless sunbathing is prohibited. During the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, eating and drinking in public is strictly forbidden. However, most hotels and clubs will serve food and beverages to foreigners. Over Ramadan, visitors should consider dressing extra conservatively outdoors.

Climate: The United Arab Emirates has a desert climate, characterized by pleasantly mild winters and very hot, sunny summers. But it's the humidity of the Persian Gulf that makes the heat unbearable. The rains are rare, but they occur in the form of showers or downpours, which can sometimes be intense. Most of these occur between December and March. In Abu Dhabi, the daily average temperature ranges from 18°C in January to around 35°C in August. The sun in the Emirates shines all year round, however, cloud banks may sometimes pass over the country, both in winter and in summer. The sea in the Emirates is warm enough for swimming all year round. Sea Temperature in winter is around 23°C but in summer it can exceed 30°C.
